i first started photographing New York during the time off when I was working for Getty images in the late 1980’s, early 1990s. I was taking regular trips there and had time off while waiting for my next job. New York is a very different to city to photograph than London. As I shoot on film I had to be careful with the X-ray scanners in New York airports as often they security staff would insist on scanning undeveloped film under a machine rather than checking it by hand. Xray scanners can ruin a batch of film if you’re unlucky.
New York has a vertical aspect to it that London doesn’t have so much. In New York there are fantastic vertical views everywhere. The skyscrapers and the bridges make superb wide angle photographs. I have 5 photographs of The Statue of Liberty alone.
New York photographs work well as colour prints as well as black and white. The black and white sets work really well in an office or boardroom where you need at least four prints hanging together. If you order 4 or more prints we’ll hang them for you free of charge.
I had a lot of fun making these prints. I hope you enjoy them too.
