Framed prints of Paris for an office.
I’ve been hanging prints of Paris in offices for years. I’ve built up a strong selection of Eiffel Tower prints that are popular with clients. Although the print below isn’t of the Eiffel Tower, it’s one of my favourites from the city. I remember the moment I took it, and before it gets lost in this blog I thought I’d put it at the top. I shot it on Fuji Velvia film using my medium format Bronica at ISO 64. If you like it as much as I do, you can see it here.
If you’ve been reading my blog and looking at the other pages, you’ll have already seen this print below in colour. I’ve now printed it in black and white because it works beautifully as part of a set of Paris black and white prints and adds a timeless, cohesive feel to the collection. Notice the rule of thirds I’ve used here: the subject sits in the left-hand third of the image vertically, while the sky occupies roughly two thirds of the horizontal plane, creating a balanced, airy composition that draws the eye gently across the frame. You can view this print here.
There’s so much subtlety in the Parisian landscape, and I find myself thinking even more about the delicate grey tones in the black and white images I make. There are Metro signs, scooters, the people, and the signage that together give the streets their character, not to mention the elegant bridges across the Seine. I could easily spend an entire day photographing the lights on those bridges alone. Light streaks are also wonderful against the Paris backdrop, adding motion and contrast to the scene. You can see the print below here.
